Plein-air painting created in the beach of Garraf (Spain) in June 2023

A vanitas emerges as a treasure brimming with dreams, a recurring image in artistic expressions. My intention with this artwork was to create a contemporary interpretation of the vanitas.

This painting is a mastercopy of a plein air artwork from the “Sorolla, cazando impresiones,” exhibition in Palau Martorell. In my creative process, I focused my attention on exploring the use of color, brushtroke technique and the impasto effect.

This painting is part of the ‘Nocturnas’ series, a collection that addresses the feeling of vulnerability in public spaces.

The work is mostly executed using direct or alla prima techniques, with a focus on the overall form rather than unnecessary details. This working method ensures that the viewer takes a leading role, using their eye and intellect to complete the artwork as if solving a puzzle. In this artwork, special attention is given to the brushstroke style, layering, contrast, and a limited color palette.

Mastercopy based on the great academic landscape painter Carlos de Haes. A predominantly direct technique has been employed in this artwork, harnessing the power of the palette knife and impasto to imbue it with expressiveness.

The work is a replica of a famous statue from the past. This revisitation strikingly highlights the wasted face of a man worn out by the years. The sculpture captures the essence of human vulnerability and the inevitable effects of time.
