We see a moving reinterpretation of the history of painting unfold in pursuit of the expansion of the codes of contemporary figuration. […] This complex collection of studies or ‘divertimentos’ – in the artist’s words – starts from a meticulous selection of classical works as a backdrop. Including, among others, works by Vel\u00e1zquez, Goya, G\u00e9ricault, Friedrich, Manet or Degas. Their serenity – imposed by custom and the passivity of the commonplace – is taken away from them and we are reminded that they are surprising and living objects.<\/p>\n
