What is the Barcelona Academy of Art?
The Barcelona Academy of Art is a high-performance specialised centre dedicated to the
professional teaching of drawing, painting and sculpture.
With a comprehensive curriculum derived from the classical tradition, the BAA offers Full-time, Part-time Programs and other courses based on the methods of the great academic studios of the 19th century. The painters Jean-León Gérôme, León Bonnat and Carolus-Duran, whose revised philosophy and teaching methods are integrated into the BAA, are figures of reference, emphasising the importance of the direct study of nature and the analysis of historical masters.
The BAA system has a very clear and effective teaching style. The basis of all disciplines and courses focuses on the importance of drawing and educating the eye. Students will advance through planned exercises that will give them the skills necessary to represent what they see through figurative language.
Through this method, students will acquire skills to express their own sensibility, ideas, and concerns more effectively.
Who’s it for?
The BAA trains students who want to become professionals in the arts of drawing, painting and sculpture: it trains artists who, after understanding the traditional methods and techniques, will be able to work in any creative atmosphere with first-class artistic skills.
The BAA offers a solid foundation for all types of artists, committing to discipline and rigour, guaranteeing maximum use of the expressive potential and effort of its students. The knowledge offered by the BAA is useful for more than just visual artists, since it offers valuable tools for the disciplines of design, digital illustration, the film industry or video game development.
Aims
To provide students with a solid technical base rooted in traditional methodologies, guaranteeing knowledge and mastery of resources, skills and materials suitable to maximize the development of an artistic identity..
